OLN = NHL

Well, OLN is now the official station of the NHL. I guess they're really committed to this, and even though apparently don't have the HD channel in place yet, they should have it up soon.

This is the official party line from the OLN site:

The partnership between OLN, Comcast and the NHL will redefine the sport for hockey viewers. More action on video on demand (VOD), in HDTV and online will create an experience like never before, including:
• VOD game highlights and library footage of hockey’s greatest moments with full fast-forward, rewind and replay capability;
• HDTV game coverage in a crisper, faster-moving, more exciting game for hockey fans every week;
• Online streaming of two live games per night (subject to local blackout), broadband highlights, commentary, and library footage;
• Round-the-clock coverage on the NHL Network, to be launched in the US in the future; and
• Comcast will have the ability to carry and/or syndicate additional games on Comcast’s regional sports networks where it has the consent of the local team and team’s rights holder.

Very interesting, mostly the NHL Network and broadband extras (it should be free "online streaming", but we'll see). I hope they don't screw this up, and turn it into NASCAR or the WWE or something.

Since I have [non-digital] CABLEVISION, hockey is NOT back! Even if you pay an extra $4.95 a month for the "digital sports tier" programming, OLN will still black out the games on Cablevision. How asinine is that? I don't have digital cable, so it's not an option in my current apartment.

Plus, if a Devils/Isles/Rangers game is featured on OLN (as is the season opener), it won't be available on MSG or Fox Sports Net. Uhm, after a whole season down the toilet, shouldn't the NHL be trying to "win the fans back"? This is the best deal Bettman could get? What a joke.
