I wanted Jersey to win too...I was in shock (as much as that's possible at 8:30am on a weds morning).
I kind of assumed the Washington Comrades would go through (although NYR put up a good fight), but I assumed the Marty & Co. would just make this happen.
I was even starting to look forward to a BOS-PEN series because I hate both their fans the most in the league (well DET is up there too).
All I can say is holy shit. I didn't see that ending like that.
I agree. Epic fucking fail of the fucking epic-est fucking proportions.
If it weren't for this complete meltdown, the softie that Lundqvist served up with 5 minutes left, to complete the Komrades Komeback from being down 3 games to 1, would have been Epic Fail #1 from last night. But alas, the prize goes to Marty and the Devils' non-existent defense.
This was a Devils team that had a legitimate chance to win, but also occasionally lacked focus (esp. late in the season, possibly due to Marty's party hangover). This team used to be able to go into lock down mode with a lead late in big games . . . but this team, not so much. What a shitty way to go out. There are disappointing losses (Fucking Matteau, Game 7 Losing To Fucking Roy and the 'Lanche) but this was such a shock that I didn't have time to be disappointed.
(I'm glad I left the bar immediately, otherwise I would have punched one of the Rangers fans cheering when they lost. Fucking assholes. Hey, I was rooting for YOUR shitty team.)
But don't feel bad for me, I'm not on the team. And hey, at least the Devils made the playoffs, and they're not the non-playoff-making punk-ass Sabres.
The Sabres didn't embarrass themselves nearly that much this year, even in losing to good-awful teams like the Lightning and the Thrash and getting shut out by the Isles.
The Panthers have not 1 but 2 goalies...The Sabres finished very average and as I have stated previously on this very blog need (needed) to "shake things up." Their season was less an embarrassment and more just another example of them not managing to put together a team that can compete with the others in the league.
But they didn't give up two goals in 1 minute that fucked their whole season.
It's the difference between "Leaving Las Vegas" and Kurt Cobain. You knew from the beginning it wasn't going to end well for Cage/the Sabres. Despite some fits and starts, you figured with Cobain's money and fame he'd work it out.

I truly feel bad for you, Jeff.

They finished 10th behind the Panthers who, last time I checked, don't even have a goalie. The Sabres entire SEASON was an embarrassment.

I didn't see "Leaving Las Vegas". Did something bad happen to Cage?
You're lying to yourself if you'd rather be out of the playoffs than be eliminated in the first round. That's crazy talk.
Yeah, "Leaving Las Vegas" ends poorly for Nick Cage's character.
Ok, I would have preferred the Sabres make the playoffs, but not to lose on two shit goals in game 7.
